- Horseride to sun gate
- Ollantaytambo- Rainbow mountain
Ollantaytambo is one of the most important destinations in the Sacred Valley of Peru and a perfect place for travelers before visiting Machu Picchu.
One of the main reasons is its lower elevation compared to Cusco.
Because Ollantaytambo is lower than Cusco, many travelers feel better here and experience fewer altitude sickness symptoms. It is easier to sleep, walk, and acclimatize before hiking or traveling to Machu Picchu or any trek in the andes
Experience a unique horseback adventure from Ollantaytambo to the ancient gateway of Inti Punku, also known as the “Sun Gate.” This scenic route takes you through beautiful Andean valleys, traditional villages, and impressive Inca landscapes rarely visited by tourists.
The tour usually takes 5 to 7 hours round trip, depending on the pace and weather conditions. Riding horses makes the journey more comfortable while allowing travelers to enjoy panoramic mountain views and authentic local culture.
In the morning, we will pick you up directly from your hotel in Ollantaytambo and travel by private transport to the traditional Andean community of Socma, located in the Sacred Valley.
Upon arrival, you will meet our horses and local horsemen, who will guide you along an ancient trail surrounded by breathtaking mountain scenery. The horseback ride takes approximately 30 to 40 minutes, leading you to a scenic viewpoint overlooking the impressive Perolniyoc Waterfall.
At the viewpoint, you will enjoy a well-deserved break while admiring the stunning cascade and the surrounding valley. Here you will also have time to enjoy your box lunch in a peaceful natural setting, while learning about Inca history, local traditions, and the importance of this sacred landscape.
After lunch, we continue with a short 10-minute downhill walk to get closer to the waterfall, where you can take incredible photos of the powerful drop and crystal-clear waters—one of the most photogenic hidden gems in the Sacred Valley.
Later, we hike back for about 15 minutes Downhill, where our horses will be waiting to return you comfortably to Socma village. From there, we take our transport back to Ollantaytambo, arriving at your hotel in the afternoon.
If you are planning to hike in Cusco—whether the Classic Inca Trail or the 2-Day Inca Trail—this experience is the perfect preparation hike to acclimatize and train your body before exploring the Andes.
We start the day with a pickup from your hotel in Ollantaytambo at around 8:00 am, traveling in our private tourist transport to the impressive Inca site of Puma Marka, located in the beautiful Pallata Valley.
Upon arrival, we begin a gentle 10 to 15-minute uphill walk at your own comfortable pace. Once at the top, we explore this little-visited archaeological site, surrounded by peace, nature, and stunning mountain views. Unlike crowded tourist spots, Puma Marka offers an authentic and quiet Inca experience.
Our professional local guide will share fascinating insights about the history and purpose of this sacred place during the Inca civilization, helping you connect with the culture and landscape.
After the visit, we enjoy a relaxing moment in a scenic spot where you will have your delicious box lunch, prepared in traditional Ollantaytambo style. This is followed by a 30 to 40-minute rest, perfect to relax, digest, and enjoy the peaceful environment.
In the afternoon, we begin our 3 to 4-hour downhill hike back to Ollantaytambo, walking at a relaxed pace. This section of the trail is ideal for building stamina and confidence for longer treks in the Andes. Your guide will lead the group safely until we return to your hotel.
We pick you up early in the morning directly from your hotel in Ollantaytambo and begin a scenic journey through the Sacred Valley.
Unlike traditional routes that go through Cusco, we take a faster and less crowded alternative route, passing through beautiful landscapes of the Sacred Valley, including Urubamba and Calca, Picsac continuing through remote valleys and high-Andean communities until we reach the base area near Rainbow Mountain.
This route allows us to arrive earlier than most tour groups, giving you the best chance to enjoy the mountain before it gets crowded. After 7:00–8:00 am, the site becomes very busy, with long lines for photos. Our goal is to reach the viewpoint early so you can experience the mountain in a more peaceful and authentic way.
Once at the summit of Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca), you will have time to enjoy the stunning views, take incredible photos, and appreciate the unique natural colors of the Andes at your own pace.
After exploring, we descend back to our transport and begin the return journey to Ollantaytambo, arriving at your hotel in the afternoon.
